The Day The Tree Came Down
A Reflection on Sudden Change and New Perspectives
βThe day the tree came down, I watched in disbelief. I knew it had a branch or two, that needed some relief. But then I quickly realized, that this was more than just a trim. This was change happening, right before my eyes.
I felt so exposed, left open for all to see. Little did I know, that this was more than just a tree. Just like that, the tree was gone. Without even a stump to sit on.
But now I can see, what was beyond that tree. A new perspective and path, that I know is for me.β
Sometimes life forces a "trim" that feels like a total loss. We feel vulnerable and unprotected when the things that once shaded us are suddenly removed. However, it is only when the "tree" is gone that we can see the horizon. This process of clearing away the old to make room for a new path is exactly what we work toward in EMDR Therapy as we remove the emotional blockages that keep us from seeing our true potential.
