A Letter to My Clients: One Year In

Reflecting on the First Door Opened

As I sit in quiet reflection on the words “one year in,” my eyes fill with tears of joy. May 31st, 2022, was the day I officially opened the doors to SL Counseling, LLC, and became a private practice owner. A year ago, I was scared and uncertain—but I was fueled by the belief that I could only truly fail if I never tried.

Outgrowing the Safety Net

After graduating with my Master’s, I knew private practice was the goal, but I took smaller steps first. I learned a great deal in community mental health, but eventually, I outgered it. I joined another practice, but I outgrew that, too.

Despite being told by previous employers that I would fail—that I "needed" them to be successful—I chose to trust my intuition. I wanted away from the toxicity. I wanted the freedom of a true work-life balance and a therapeutic space of my own creation. So, I created it.

The View from the Bay Window

I had my eye on a specific office in Rocky River long before I was ready. When the timing finally aligned, it was still waiting for me. Today, that space is filled with scenes of nature and a bay window for my spider plant. Looking around this office brings me immense joy; it is a physical manifestation of the calmness and peace I want for every person who walks through the door.

To My Clients: Thank You

My schedule started with only three clients on that first day. As the months passed, my worry transformed into confidence. I feel blessed to have such a deep passion for this work and gratitude for the "broken path" that led me here.

To my clients: I feel an overwhelming appreciation for you. I am honored to be trusted with your stories and privileged to spend time with such unique and beautiful souls. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.
