Self-Care is an Act of Self-Love

More Than a To-Do List

Self-care is so much more than just hygiene or drinking enough water. It isn't just another box to check off on your to-do list. We spend so much of our lives caring for others—at work, at home, and in our communities—that we often forget to nourish the person at the center of it all: ourselves.

True self-care is an act of love. It is doing what brings you peace, helps you remain mindful, and reminds you that life is worth living. It should make you feel alive.

The Power of Intention

If you already do some of the things on the list below, I encourage you to set a new intention: do it solely for you. If you’re making a cup of tea, acknowledge that it is your tea and no one else’s. If you’re watching your favorite show, recognize that this is time you have intentionally carved out for your own joy.

A Menu of Self-Love

What serves you best will change from moment to moment. Here is a starting point to help you find what resonates today:

  • For Connection: Talk to a friend, send a meaningful text, or celebrate a small win with a loved one.

  • For Movement: Stretch, hike, kayak, or go for a mindful walk.

  • For Stillness: Take a nap, watch the clouds, or sit in the sun as much as possible.

  • For Creativity: Work on a hobby, learn a new recipe, or spend time coloring and scrapbooking.

  • For the Senses: Eat your favorite dessert mindfully, take a long bath, or be barefoot in the grass.

  • For the Mind: Write a letter to your higher power, build a puzzle, or start a daily gratitude list.

Your Daily Check-In

Self-care looks different for everyone. My best advice is to stop and ask yourself: "What will serve me best in this moment?" Listen to the answer that resonates, and then give yourself permission to act on it.
